Electric Fields

planckC

"Electric Fields" is a generative artwork inspired by the fields created from electrically charged particles in space. Lines are formed following the paths of positively charged particles. The density of lines at a specific location in space reveals information about the strength of the field at that location. Every single location in space has its own electric field strength and direction associated with it. Consequently, the lines representing the field cannot cross each other at any given point. Positively charged particles are drawn in blue and negatively charged particles in red. Field theory began as a mathematical formulation of Newtonian mechanics, providing a framework for studying the motion and forces associated with electricity and magnetism. Charles-Augustin de Coulomb showed in 1785 that the repulsive force between two electrically charged spheres obeys the same force law as Newton's law of universal gravitation: the force between two bodies is directed along the line separating the bodies, and its magnitude is proportional to the product of their charges (for gravitation, their masses) divided by the square of their distance apart.
